JOHN
C. SAVAGE
Managing
Director
Alliant
Partners
John
Savage works with a broad range of Alliant clients,
including those in electronic design automation
and semiconductor equipment. John's varied background
in makes him particularly well suited for negotiating
structurally complex deals, including a recent
three-way merger between Mattson Technology,
CFM Technologies, Inc. and STEAG Electronic
Systems AG's semiconductor equipment division.
Before
working with Alliant, John founded his own venture
buyout firm, Glenwood Capital Partners, and
Redwood Partners, its successor. His firm's
emphasis on measured returns and a clear exit
strategy proved the success of this model for
investing in undervalued technology companies.
John began his venture capital career in 1981
as a partner with Weiss, Peck & Greer and
its succession of venture capital funds, until
he left in 1990.
Prior
to his 19-year venture capital career, John
spent several years in business development
and planning for Four-Phase Systems, focusing
on computer system related acquisitions. He
also held various management positions with
Envirotech Corporation, where he managed the
company's acquisition and divestiture strategy.
John
began his career as a chemical engineer. After
receiving his MBA, he spent two years with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington,
D.C. shortly after it was formed, focusing on
the economic impact of EPA regulations related
to the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.
John
earned a bachelor degree in chemical engineering
from Georgia Tech and a Masters of Business
Administration from Harvard Business School.
John is currently a director of FileNET Corporation
(NASDAQ: FILE), a Southern California enterprise
software company.
