Trends and issues from silicon processing to complex packaging
ABSTRACT
The semiconductor industry is changing with the increasing need and overlap of silicon processing, assembly, test and EMS companies as we move towards "system on a chip" and "system on a package". Challenges in silicon processing go beyond the traditional scaling -- we are concerned with a new set of structures and materials for gates and interconnects. The cost and technology "barrier of entry" for companies are also skyrocketing as both packaging and silicon processing significantly increases in complexity.

The panel will focus on the semiconductor roadmap, the barriers and changes facing silicon technology, increasing problem of high barrier to entry for small companies, the "integration" of silicon, assembly, test and EMS companies and the general trends and health of the industry.
