Angels'
Forum (The) and The Halo Fund
The Angels'
Forum was organized by entrepreneur Carol Sands to enable angel investors
in Silicon Valley to increase the probability of success by investing
and advising companies as part of an organized group that leverages
the time, skills, experiences, professional networks and capital of
its diverse membership. Members of The Angels' Forum have skills and
expertise in engineering, finance, human resources, marketing, operations,
research and development and sales. As business executives and investors,
the group's members have worked in the software, hardware, semiconductor,
life sciences, consulting, research and educational institutions,
retail, consumer products and finance (investment banking, bonds and
venture capital) industries. The combined experiences of the members
of The Angels' Forum include 42 initial public offerings and 99 mergers
or acquisitions. On average, prior to joining the group, a member
of The Angels' Forum had been involved in 4.3 start-ups. Ages range
from 30 years to over 65 years; and the group has nearly 500 years
of collective business experience. Each member of The Angels' Forum
offers business consulting acumen and access to a network of professional
contacts to each of the group's portfolio companies whether or not
that member has personally invested in the particular portfolio company.
As a result of the diversity in the skills, experiences, backgrounds
and interests of its members, The Angels' Forum is able to mitigate
some of the risks of angel investing by maintaining a broadly diversified
portfolio of companies. Since 1998, the, the group invested approximately
$20 million in over 50 companies. These companies are involved in
industries ranging from e-commerce to medical devices to telecommunications,
with products and services ranging from internet-based event ticketing
to high tech packaging solutions to innovative drug delivery devices.
