Edison
International's Mahvash Yazdi Named a "Premier" Information
Technology Executive by Computerworld Magazine
ROSEMEAD
Calif., Monday, Jan. 28, 2002-Mahvash Yazdi, the senior vice president
and chief information officer for Edison International and Southern
California Edison (SCE), has been named "one of the business
world's Premier 100" information technology (IT) leaders by
Computerworld magazine.
Business
leaders named to the list "demonstrate not only technical expertise
but also the ability to inspire their staff to excel," according
to Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "By
motivating people with recognition and opportunity, these leaders
understand that the strength of any IT initiative resides with the
people working toward its success."
Yazdi,
who joined Edison International in 1997, oversees more than 1,000
employees and is responsible for the company's overall information
technology resources and activities, including the fourth-largest
data center in the western United States, according to IBM, and
one of the largest, most-sophisticated privately held fiber-optic
networks in the nation. She also has oversight for strategy, planning,
systems architecture, telecommunications, software development and
infrastructure management, as well as program management and e-business.
Edison
International has won several IT honors under Yazdi's stewardship.
Computerworld has ranked Edison International as one of the "100
best places to work in information systems" four years in a
row. The company was among Information Week's list of top 500 innovators
in 2001. In 1998, IT for Utilities magazine selected Edison International
for a James H. McGraw award for IT excellence, recognizing the company
for its "comprehensive efforts to revitalize the organization,
and effectiveness of IT throughout the company."
"Mahvash
has provided extraordinary leadership over our information technology
organization at a very challenging time," said John E. Bryson,
Edison International chairman, president and CEO. "In recent
years, Mahvash's efforts ensured that our vast computer operations
for all of the Edison companies made a smooth transition through
the Y2K process.
She
also oversaw the successful completion of the largest software project
in company history-the massive upgrade of our billing and information
system that serves over 4 million utility customer accounts. This
was achieved while daily managing the myriad computer systems that
keep the lights on throughout Southern California."
A resident
of Palos Verdes, Yazdi earned an MBA from the University of Southern
California and a bachelor's degree in industrial management from
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She also has completed
the management of information technology program at Harvard Business
School.
The
complete list of Premier 100 IT leaders can be found in the Jan.
1, 2002, issue of Computerworld and online at www.computerworld.com.
