iPASS AND JITONG PROVIDE SECURE, COST-EFFECTIVE GLOBAL INTERNET ROAMING THROUGHOUT CHINA
iPass Extends Its Presence in Asia with New Alliance

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., (July 22, 2001) -- iPass(tm) Inc., a premier provider of carrier-grade remote access services, announced today that Jitong Network Communications Company Limited, one of the largest data, Internet and telecommunications companies in China, has teamed with iPass to supply secure Internet roaming solutions to its business customers throughout China.

iPass will provide Jitong's expanding business client base with the ability to remotely connect to their company intranets and applications such as email, using a secure IP/VPN tunnel, with the ease and cost of placing a local phone call from virtually anywhere in the world. The service, branded by Jitong as the Corporate Global Roaming service, features the award-winning iPassConnect(tm) client software which provides access to over 14,000 unique points of presence (POPs) worldwide. This easy-to-use interface, available in Simplified Chinese, provides support for notebooks, desktops, handheld computers and PDAs over dial-up, ISDN and broadband connections.

"During this time of expansion in China's communications industry, we are pleased to offer our customers a well-proven and cost-effective solution for their secure remote access needs," said Xianfu Ning, vice president of Jitong Network Communications Company. "Teaming with iPass to offer our Corporate Global Roaming service will help us keep pace with the growing industrial base within our country and allow us to provide the best service at the best cost to the increasing number of business travelers within our country and those visiting from all over the world."

Jitong is one of only five companies licensed by the Chinese government to offer commercial data and voice communications services using Internet standards. With access in over 150 countries, iPass manages the industry's largest combined network of ISPs and carriers to provide the most comprehensive global Internet roaming services available today. Within the past year, iPass has increased its POP coverage in China over 3000%, ensuring that mobile professionals traveling throughout the country will experience the best possible coverage and redundancy.

The iPass-Jitong alliance will enable both companies to take advantage of China's rapidly expanding base of users on the Internet, which, according to a new report from the China Internet Network Information Center, now exceeds 20 million individuals. In addition to access via computers, another 920,000 people in China are connecting to the Internet using devices such as mobile telephones and home information appliances.

"iPass is committed to providing superior services throughout all of Asia for dial-up, broadband and wireless connections via laptops, desktops, PDAs and other devices. Our alliance with Jitong allows us to extend our reach throughout Asia's fastest growing market which is being fueled by increasing commerce between China and other countries," said Michael Mansouri, chairman and CEO of iPass. "We look forward to our joint business with Jitong and to the many future opportunities this represents."
